PE-12 Emergency Lighting

Description

Automatic emergency lighting should activate in the event of a power outage or disruption, that illuminates emergency exits and evacuation routes within information resource facilities.

Applicability

• This Control applies to facilities that house information resources (e.g. data centers, server rooms or closets) considered high or moderate impact and which require a higher level of security due to the nature of one of the following:

  • type of equipment
  • type of data the equipment stores.

  Responsibility for ensuring physical security to information resources may be part of the job function for departmental staff who may include, but not be limited to, information technology staff, information resource custodians, facility coordinators, supervisors, managers and others.

Implementation

• 1The Unit Head, or designee, responsible for information resource facilities shall:

  • 1.1Deploy and maintain appropriate emergency lighting that covers emergency exits and evacuation routes; and
  • 1.2Deploy and maintain emergency lighting in critical processing areas supported through an independent power grid or source.

• 2Emergency lighting systems shall:

  • 2.1Activate automatically in the event of a power outage or disruption; and
  • 2.2Provide automatic notification of activation to the appropriate staff.
