NetID 101

Your NetID is the key to your digital experience at Texas A&M. Here, you'll find information about common services Identity Security offers to the campus community and details about the lifeycle of NetID accounts.

What is a Texas A&M NetID?

For members of the Texas A&M community, your NetID is a vital online identifier that provides access to numerous university systems and resources. NetID stands for Network Identification, and it serves as your unique username across Texas A&M's digital platforms.

When you join Texas A&M as a student, faculty member, or staff, you are granted a personalized NetID made up of letters and numbers - something like abc123 or jdoe45. This NetID combined with your password allows you to log into a range of essential online services.

NetID vs. UIN

The NetID differs from your UIN, or "Universal Identification Number". Most offices on campus use the UIN to identify you in their records, because it is guaranteed to be unique and never re-used.

Some key uses of your NetID include:

  • The Howdy Portal for student registration, financial aid, grades, and more
  • Your official university email account (NetID@tamu.edu)
  • Canvas, the learning management system for accessing course materials
  • University computers, printers, software, and network access
  • Library services like checking out books and using research databases
  • Managing your parking permits and citations

Keeping Texas A&M Safe

Your NetID centralizes your Texas A&M digital identity and credentials into one convenient username. Instead of memorizing different logins for each system, your NetID is a master key that opens numerous digital doors.

It's important to keep your NetID and password safe, as they grant access to sensitive academic and personal information. Select a strong password, don't share your login details, and take advantage of available security features.
