Tenable Nessus Agent Uninstall Guide
Before you begin:
- Unlink the agent from the manager. Use the Agent nessuscli utility to unlink.
Examples of the Nessus Agent unlink Command
- Windows:
"C:\Program Files\Tenable\Nessus Agent\nessuscli.exe" agent unlink - Linux:
“# /opt/nessus_agent/sbin/nessuscli” agent unlink
Note: Unlinking an agent refers to the act of removing the connection between the agent and its manager. Unlinking it ensures it no longer communicates with the manager. This means that the agent will no longer get scan requests or receive updates from the manager.
To uninstall Tenable Nessus Agent from the Windows user interface:
- Navigate to the portion of Windows where you can Add or Remove Programs or Uninstall or change a program.
- In the list of installed programs, select the Tenable Nessus Agent product.
- Click Uninstall.
- A dialog box appears, prompting you to confirm your selection to remove Tenable Nessus Agent.
- Click Yes.
- Windows deletes all Nessus related files and folders.
To uninstall Tenable Nessus Agent on Linux:
- Type the remove command specific to your Linux-style operating system.

- OpenDebian/Kali and Ubuntu
# dpkg -r NessusAgent - OpenRed Hat 6 and 7, Oracle Linux 6 and 7
# yum remove NessusAgent - OpenRed Hat 8 and later, Oracle Linux 8 and later, Fedora
# dnf remove NessusAgent - OpenSUSE
# sudo zypper remove NessusAgent
Note: To completely remove Tenable Nessus Agent from the system, you must manually delete the agent filesystem after running the remove command.
